A Mom
Leave a commentThat is my son at the 2012 Christmas Parade with his Cub Scout Pack. What chaos that night! Twenty 7-8 year old “wild calves” makes for a very eventful evening. We had to wait almost 2 hours before the parade started! If you listen carefully my son is the one asking “do ya’ll have any snacks?” Yes he is eating me out of house and home!
It is tough being a Mom these days much less a Mom that carries the weight of most of the finances and child care. Yes, that is my doing because I am feeling sorry for his father..but that is exactly why I do not want my son to grow up in the image of his Dad. That may sound cruel but that is how it is.
On a typical weekday I get my son up between 6:15-6:30 am. I fix his breakfast and he watches TV for a bit or usually plays with his Playstation or WII. Then we get dressed, go to the bathroom, brush teeth, take inventory of what he has to haul to school and off we go!
Afterschool he has free time for a little while then homework, dinner, bath and bedtime.
And the scene repeats itself all over again the next day.
His dad usually takes him Fri, Sat and Sun..and sometimes Thurs. night. Oh and we also have Cub scouts on Tues, Royal Rangers on Wed, and then when it is time for Football and Baseball we have practice two to three times a week.
Maybe it is because I am 43 now, but I do not know how a mom who has more than one child manages everything. I just don’t seem to have the energy that I used to. However, my son says I can pitch and hit pretty good but I am terrible at throwing a football! I guess two out of three isn’t bad.
My son is growing every day and I have tried and continue to instill in him to do his best and that is what I expect. I do not want him to be a perfectionist like I thought I had to be as a child and teenager, I just want him to understand that his best is what he should be proud of. If he was perfect he wouldn’t need me or most of all Jesus.
He goes to a private Christian School. He seems to really enjoy it but it costs me a moderate pretty penny each month but so far it is worth every cent.
I am only 8 years into this Mom thing but so far I seem to be making headway. My son seems well-adjusted, confident, intelligent, and very proficient when it comes to expressing himself. We “talk” a lot and I love the fact that he pretty much has a limited filter so our conversations are quite colorful at times. The other night we were doing his math homework which included standard measurements. One of the questions had to do with kilograms, I got the answer wrong and he got it right! He said..”Mommy you just don’t know your Math facts that well, but that’s ok we can give you more study time!” It was at that point that I really did realize that a 43-year-old woman is back in second grade with all of the rest to come!! Maybe I should check and see if the school offers adult tuition?!
