This is BART, he is one of four rescue animals that are part of my family. He knows his name, he comes when he is called, he is a consumate chatterbox, he purrs with ease, he loves going outside for walks, but most of all I think he knows he is loved!

Human Trafficking 101

I love to write, fiction and non-fiction. If you have read my blogs you may have gotten an idea of who I am and what I am about. Have you ever struggled with that empty space within you? Something missing? I have. I pretty much say what is on my mind. That is the beauty of writing, you can express what is deep within you.

A few restless days and nights since reading articles and joining the Polaris Project, which is a movement dedicated to addressing the issue of Human Trafficking, I may just have found my own personal way of filling that empty space.

I recently confided in one of my best friends whom I adore dearly that I wondered, when all is said and done, how would my son describe me to a stranger? His response was “so you are worried about what other people think about you?” I thought for a second. My response was” not really”, more so will he be able to say that his Mom made a difference..did she give back? I hope the answer will be yes.

As I searched for information related to missions abroad I came across an article about Human Trafficking in the United States. My initial reaction was..WTF? No way, that only happens in other countries that are less sophisticated, not mine. WRONG!! Take the blinders off Smarterwiser, welcome to the Real World.

Human Trafficking is a billiion dollar industry in  the U.S.! Yes, I am telling you that Human Slavery is alive and well and right under your nose, like it or not it is a fact.

I urge you to educate yourself regarding this epidemic. It is your responsibility to become involved, you may be a victim’s only voice. Human Trafficking may involve various CRIMES including forced sex, forced agricultural labor and housekeeping. My specific focus for the time being is forced sex.

There are many ways to “become involved”..from simply passing the word along to a friend to becoming part of the “Underground Railroad”. It is your choice. If you say you do not have time..Bullshit! It takes less than 5 minutes of your time to forward a website like Polaris Project or NHTRC (National Human Trafficking Resource Center).

Did you know that slavery is alive and well in our County? I guarantee you that it exists in your state, your county and your city. It is called Human Trafficking and it is a billion dollar industry. The majority of victims are runaway teens looking for a promise of love and being part of a family. The trafficker lurs them in with promises of love, glamour and wealth..and then they are kidnapped, drugged and gang raped. Check the statistics yourself..http://www.polarisproject.org/
