Batter Up!

I have done a lot of thinking lately. As I watched my son play Little League baseball it hit me..Life is much like the game..

The line up is set..they call batter up and it’s you! A few practice swings..while the catcher “plays catch” with the pitcher.

You’re up to bat, like it or not, it’s your turn.

Everyone is hollering..”you’ve got this”, “make it yours”, “line drive”, “over the fence”, “keep your eye on  the ball”..

You walk up to the plate knowing full well you are going to have to swing at a pitch. A strike, a ball, whatever. You have to swing at least once!

If it is just right..you dig in, hold the bat just off your shoulder ..praying for a level swing.

The first pitch..it’s out of the box..you step back.”good eye” they yell.

Second pitch..you swing too low..a strike..

Another pitch..you have him now. You think you  know how it’s coming. You are more determined than ever to make contact..just get a piece of it..

He pitches a good ball, you swing you’re level best, it doesn’t connect…too high, too low, you dipped on the swing..it doesn’t matter at this point..

You’re out!

But only until you are on deck again..You have learned from your mistakes and this time it WILL be over the fence.. You will run Home and slide for the hell of it!
